  • Can I surcharge my customers who pay with a credit card?
  • Yes, because of a suit against Visa/MC, you can now surcharge transactions up to 4%. See this article (http://www.ncsl.org/research/financial-services-and-commerce/credit-or-debit-card-surcharges-statutes.aspx) to learn more on the details but the key factor is to consider how it will affect your customer's perception of your product or service. If you penalize them, but your competitor does not, then you risk upsetting and losing that customer. My suggestion is to price everything as if you were going to get a credit card, then offer up a surprise cash bonus back to the customer in the form of a gift card to Target for example.
